Dear Edie,
Sorry it's been a few weeks since we have chatted! I have been traveling like my daughters 3rd grade basketball team!! California, Florida, New York and North Dakota all in just the last 3 weeks alone. It is so great to see everyone in person sharing the excitement of our opportunity with many of you!! Lots of great success happening and we have only just begun the journey towards an incredible future!!
I love hearing all the stories of how understanding the Colors of Success has helped so many of you build your businesses. Keep up the awesome work!
OK, so far in our series on TEAM Talk, we have laid out that the T stands for TRUST and the E represents EMPATHY we come to the letter A. A is for ACCOMODATION. This is a critically important aspect of developing a strong TEAM.
Because any team will be made up of many different people and personalities we NEED to be accommodating toward each member of the team. Let's talk about 4 major areas of importance:
NEEDS: Each personality color has different needs. A Yellow needs tolerance, independence and to feel good (inside). Greens need to be understood, they need quality and to be good (morally). Blues need to be noticed and gain approval from the masses and to look good (Socially). While a Red's need will center on the need to be right! Reds only need approval from a few select people and to look good (technically)!
As you can tell accommodating each personality type can be a bit of a challenge but certainly worth the effort to get the most out of each.
IDEAS: EVERY idea, concept or thought has great value to any team. Some should be adopted and tried while others should be heard but that’s about it! The trick is to be able to identify which is which! Blue's are like "Hey, let’s try it! It might work!" while Green's often times say "Let's not, what if it doesn't work?" A Yellow's response to an idea is often "Fine by me, I don't want to upset anyone." And Red's will try anything as long as it was their idea! :-)
A great rule of thumb here is to be flexible! Our business is often times about exploration, trial and error, Hit AND Miss! I say that ANY activity is a good activity. Be open to possibilities but don't be afraid to stick to what is working either!
EXPERIENCE: Tap into the power of past experiences of team members but don't be so locked in that you become closed minded to new thoughts. Our business is in a constant state of change because people are in a constant state of change! We are all growing and expanding through our personal experiences. Be accommodating in this area and realize that everything that happens to you, good or bad, will help you!! Experience is ONLY gained by being in the game!
FAULT'S: This is probably the toughest and yet the most important area for each of us to accommodate each other in! Here is the great news however: NONE OF US ARE PERFECT!! We all bring different faults to the table. If there is one area that understanding the different personality colors can really make the difference in success, it is in this area of faults. This is why we need a TEAM in the first place! One person’s area of weakness is often times the strength of another!
Are you accommodating to others needs, ideas, experience and faults??? More importantly, do OTHERS find you accommodating?? Do you provide leadership when needed and yet enough space for others to be themselves? Do you allow the actions (or non actions) of others to dictate how and what YOU are doing to build your business? Tough questions, I know, but well worth some thought!
The AWESOME thing about our business is that it is broad enough to allow for all types. Creating and embracing an attitude of accommodation will be powerful tools toward the success of any team!
Thanks for accommodating my views on the letter A! Now let’s go out and make it a GREAT day!! Talk again soon.
